Social Game: new trend for your brand?

Every day, millions of people interact on social networks. They come from everywhere and all of them are looking for different thing on Social Media.

From the last years, social gaming has become a continuously increasing part of the people interest. Social game industry has created attractive games that offer great interconnection with friends and family thanks to such tool has been as increasing as the number of users.

Obviously, a part of the attraction is that most of the games are offering free version.

An example of success story of the industry is surely Zynga, the today largest game publisher on Facebook and successful developer of Farmville. Launched in June 2009 Farmville became one of most famous applications with 82.4 million active users. In Farmville, the players are attracted by something that could look very naïve and childish.

Indeed, who should have bet on a game offering to grow crops and trees, raise animals and earn coins? Maybe, it is actually the childish part of everyone that makes the gamers staying hours every day on this game. Mixture of doll house, construction trucks for kids and “tamagotchi”.

But today, the irony is that thanks to the users spending real money on the game and purchasing digital gifts, the game is not only a success of millions users. It is also a profitable cash flow game for Zynga.

Brands benefits in Social Games

But from now, although I dream to become the next Mark Zuckerberg, I have to work for my clients ;-) And as Euro RSCG 4D member, my main interest is mainly on how I should build a game that would attract gamers and at the same time, develop brand/product awareness. This is more and more important while the gamer population is not restricted anymore to the geeks.

Indeed, it is the invasion of the game in the family; everyone plays and shares the result. No one wants to see his/her grand mother beating him/her in “Night Club City”! So everyone plays to secure the best score in the family/friends area.

Online game is a fantastic playground for marketing. Indeed, new gamer generation is searching for the game of the moment and they are ready to accept brands that will deliver fun and pleasure.  Then, it is up to the brand to show interesting product to the community.

And here, as a brand, you have the choice either to develop a campaign around a game existing and benefit of the current fans of the game. Or you can create your own social game.

Of course, the choice should depend of the campaign you wish to launch and the target you focus on.

In my office, the points of views are shared to know what the best for brand is.  So you can always come to meet us, we will discuss what could be done for your brand either on existing game or on a new one we will create for you ;-)

For example, if you were working in marketing dpt of a bank, you could ask us to develop your own game with same principle than FarmVille in an urban atmosphere. In the game, all ATM and bank agencies will be branded; gamer could ask for a digital overdraft and buy digital gifts. And why not, a bit of fusion marketing with homeopathic industry. Homeopathic products would give “extra life” to the players. Thus of course should be branded.
