1 million smarphone users in Bulgaria
Over 1 million Bulgarians are smartphone owners a recent study concludes. This represents around 12% of all mobile users and the trend suggests that these numbers are still growing with a rapid speed. Last January there were around 700 000 people with smartphones which means that for 1 year their number has increased with 42%.
Market shares of mobile operating systems in Bulgaria
According to the study these are the market shares of different mobile operating systems in Bulgaria in December 2011:
- Android – 15%
- Symbian – 14%
- iOS – 9%
- Blackberry – 5%
- Windows Mobile – 4%
- Bada (Samsung) – 1%
Where are the mobile apps in Bulgaria?
When there are so many people that own a smartphone we should ask ourselves: “Is it suitable to implement the word “mobile” into our digital marketing strategy”. If so then is it appropriate to invest and develop our own mobile applications? Who is doing it already in Bulgaria?

The free cultural guide Programata has made an app especially designed for young people searching for places to go and things to do in their free time. The app includes an interactive map that locates your location and shows you available places nearby.
2. Radio City
Even if there is no radio receiver in iPhone this smart app enables you to listen to radio City thanks to your internet connection. However, if you are out of town and in the middle of nowhere it will be a bit hard for you to catch a signal and to enjoy modern music.
Two of the most read Bulgarian newspapers online also offer their content for mobile users. It is well structured into sections and the user has the other option to look at the most recent news. It is not easy to use as the website version but it is better than nothing.
4. Manager for iPad
Manager magazine has released their January copy for iPad and it has been downloaded more than 1000 times already. It has a beautiful design; it’s easy to read and to carry out.
Mobile marketing is already growing in Bulgaria. With more than 1 million smartphone users more companies should think about if a development of their own mobile app is worthwhile. Remember: nowadays people carry their phones all the time and they use them for more than just phone calls.
